The survey about Soltani Canal and its tributaries, which have great importance on aquatic ecosystems of the south, has been executed by the experts from the Persian Gulf Fisheries Research Centre, since Oct. 1992 until June 1993. The goal of survey was to determine the rate of heavy metals, Pb, Ni, and Vd in the sea water, sediments, and fish tissues, and to evaluate the chemical quality of the canal. In this project, sea water, bed sediments, and both organic matters and fish tissues, have been analysed to determine the rate of elements, and physical and chemical parameters of water, the rate of heavy metals; and the amount of elements in fish tissue, respectively. The acquired results indicate that: 1- The suggested method for quantitative analysis of elements, is of high accuracy. 2- Bed sediments , having sizes of less than 63 ,u, are equally distributed from the view point of organic matter fixation. The total organic matters, are significantly subject to change. Their values in autumn 1992 was ranging from 18.86 to 27.76, and in spring 1993 was between 23.81 and 26.90 percent. 3- During both seasons (autumn 1992 and spring 1993), there was no significant change in the rate of water quality parameters. 4- Tita amount of heavy metals in selective fish tissues, were less than permissible limits.

This survey has been accomplished in order to obtain scientific solutions bed to meet the Iranian Fisheries requirements in using standard fishing nets for ed to white shrimp (Metapenaeus affinis), and to help preservation of this aquatic !I's of resource, and also to help the responsibles in programming the fishing ssue, activities and compiling specific rules on this regard. For this purpose and with attention to behavioral position of shirmps, four trawlnets were procured and have been used during 1991. high The nets were used in Khuor Musa district (khouzestan province) which is the habitat of white shrimp. Using the mathematical methods and curves, the from L25%, L50% and L75% parameters were calculated for all the nets. Fishing ;, are pressure was determined to be exploitable in the mentioned longitudinal iging groups. 26.90 The CPUE was also calculated and important informations were obtained about suitable exploitation of this aquatic organism, by studying the position s no of white shrimp resources, the fishing rate of this shrimp, and also the fishing rate of small and non commercial shrimps. All informations indicate that the than trawlnet no. 3 is the most suitable one. Specifications are given in the report.

The radula has various shapes and structures in gastropods, which make it possible to distinguish them up to the level of species. In this survey, Iamels and film slides have been prepared from denticulated structure of radula in gastropods of Prosobranchia suborder. The specimens were stained by Gimsa dye with the explained method, which is very effective in identification and classification of the mollusks. After the above mentioned stages, the specimens were examined and compared by light microscope. By use of this method, some of the gastropods including Trochidae, Patellidae, Neritidae, and ... which were collected from tidal coasts of Bandar Lengeh, were identified to the levels of family, or genus. Therefore, it Is concluded that this staining method can be used for some of the mollusks having complex radulas, to be identified and classified easily to the species level......

The "Stock Assessment of Mesopelagic Resources (Myctophids)" project was carried out in the Oman Sea during 15 mounths. In this period, 7 cruises were done and by carrying out 100 hauls, the necessary biological data were collected. It should be mentioned that the studied area was restricted from Rasokuh (57°00' E/25°10'N) in west to Gwatar (61°25'E/25°48'N) in East and water border line of Iran and Oman in South. The Benthosema pterotum was identified as dominant species, This species lives in two different layers, namely D1 (80-130 m) and 02 (250-350 m), during daytime, and before sunset, migrating towards the surface and forms N1 layer. The results show that B. pterotum spawns throughout the year, with 2 peaks, in the end of summer, and end of winter. Myctophids are Zoophague, and Hairtails and Squids, are their main predators......

It is observed that certain morphological ovarian characteristics such as colour, size, and position in the body cavity, do not indicate the actual developmental stages of the ovary Histological study assists in pinpointing the real state of the ovary which in turn helps in better planning for fishing and possibly for artificial propagation of various fish species. The present study on Mugil auratus is an effort to understand its ovarian developmental cycle by histological analysis of the ovaries referring to their morphological changes. Such works had been done earlier on northern part of the Caspian Sea, but it has not so far been worked out in southern part of it. During the course of one year study, specimens of Mugil auratus were caught every month from wild population, for histomorphological studies, considering the GSI as the main index. Based on histomorphological studies six ovarian stages have been recognized which are named as 1- immature, 2- early maturing, 3- late matur.....

Karyotype of sturgeons Huso huso, Acipenser stellatus, and Acipenser persicus from southern region of- the Caspian Sea, has been examined by use of blood tissue culture. By counting fifty completely extended metaphase plates, the number of chromosomes in Huso huso, and Acipenser stellatus, were determined to be 2n=115±1, NF=356, and 2n=114±1, NF=372 , respectively. Obtaining sufficient number of suitable chromosome extensions tor Acipenser persicus was not passible, therefore its chromosomal number and karyotype were not determined. More research is required for this species. According to the basic estimations, It is presumed that the chromosomal number of this species is more than 2n=250. The karyotype and chromosomal number of this species have not been determined......
